When is guacamole not guacamole? The answer, when it’s green houmous!  At Old Havana, we serve Pan y Houmous, which is grilled homemade breads with houmous & olives, a great dish that is also vegan.

So, for Veganuary a) why not make your own fresh houmous instead of buying in plastic tubs and b) try this Cuban twist which is to make green houmous, giving a guacamole/houmous vibe with all the creaminess of the avocado and the protein hit of the chickpeas to keep you fuller for longer!

Below we also feature a how-to video with a variation of the ingredients which will also produce a great dish.

INGREDIENTS

1 medium-sized avocado, chopped
1 can of chickpeas
small chopped onion
2 garlic cloves minced
3 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
1tsp ground cumin

METHOD

Place all the ingredients in a food processor and blend until smooth
When finished place into a bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour
Serve with breads, or savoury biscuits, or crackers of your choice
